A simple fall from a DDOT bus at Livernois and 7 Mile meant an unexpected trip to the hospital and an unexpected friend when a 13-year old boy needed one the most.
On a sixty degree day, Cochise Washington would usually be riding his bike but instead he's inside playing video games. It's one of the many things this 13-year old can't do after Thursday mornings fall.
"I fell backwards, and my ankle went behind me when I landed," Cochise said Sunday night. "I heard a pop when I fell."
Cochise says he was laying face down in the snow for at least 10 minutes when he fell off the DDOT bus at Livernois and 7 MIle around 8 in the morning. Despite his cries for help, the bus kept going and so did everyone else until a good Samaritan with a big heart.
Cochise says that good Samaritan called for an ambulance while another stranger called his mom. Emergency crews eventually brought him to Henry Ford Hospital where doctors learned he broke his ankle in two places. He now has a cast up to his thigh.
"I got a call from a strange number but something told me to answer it," said Cochise's mom Infany. "I could hear him in the background hollering. When you are a mother you want to be there to comfort your child's pains."
In all the chaos and commotion, Cochise never got that good Samaritan's name. Now all the 13-year old wants to do is get his movement back and get in touch with the man who took the time to help him. His kind gesture meant everything.
"I'd like to meet him and say 'thank you,' Cochise said.
Cochise is set to have surgery on Wednesday. That's when doctors will put three screws in his ankle. He's expected to spend the next two months recovering from that unfortunate fall.
