Buffalo daycare provider charged with abuse of baby girl

BUFFALO, Minn. (KMSP) -

A longtime Wright County daycare provider has been charged with six counts of assault -- including three felonies -- after admitting to injuring an 11-month-old in her car.

"I know she's run daycare for 17 years, so there is a history of her being in the business," said Assistant Wright County Attorney Mark Erickson.

Robbin Rollag, 48, was charged after the girl's parents took their baby to a clinic when they noticed she was unusually fussy after coming home from daycare. She was diagnosed with a fractured leg and also had other marks and bruises.

"This is not a child who's in gymnastics, who is putting trauma to the body," said Erickson. "This is a very young, 11-month-old child -- and so this kind of injury should not be seen."

A Wright County deputy was brought in on March 6, 2013, to speak with the doctor. Detectives later spoke with Rollag, who told them the child had been injured while they were sledding.

In later questioning, Rollag admitted to injuring the infant "because she got to me."

Rollag told police she had pushed the girl down, causing a bruise on the infant's head, and also inflicted other bruises out of frustration. She said the leg fracture took place when she tripped, dropped the infant and then fell on top of her.

Rollag made her first court appearance on Wednesday, and her bail conditions prohibit her from being around anyone under 18 by herself. Her daycare license was also temporarily suspended by the county.

If convicted, Rollag could face five years in prison. She is scheduled to return to court in mid-April.

FOX 9 News attempted to contact Rollag for this story, but no one answered the door at her home.
