PHILADELPHIA -

Jose Zighelboim says it felt like the Earth went out from underneath him after he got a look at surveillance video of a thief breaking into his 2010 Hyundai Elantra in the heart of Queen Village Tuesday morning.

He was upset, to say the least.

"The first thing I see is this big gaping hole where my window used to be<" he told Fox 29.

Jose had come to a local synagogue near 4th and Lombard as a favor for a friend. While he was inside praying with his pal at 7 a.m., the suspect threw something through his driver's side window and literally climbed in.

"You look in there and the whole thing is like ransacked. There's stuff on one chair, stuff on another. There's glass everywhere," he explained.

The suspect spent a minute or two dangling from the car window, feet off the ground while he rifled through the car. Then he got out and just walked away.

You see traffic going by, nobody's doing anything," he said. "This is ridiculous. This is a heavily populated area, what's considered a safe neighborhood?"

Jose says all the thief got away with was his GPS holder and a GPS charger, but he lost half a day's worth of work and the damage to his car put a real dent in his wallet.

"It cost close to $400 just to repair that window," he said.

Jose says he was lucky the synagogue has state of the art surveillance cameras and got it all on tape. Now he's hoping someone will recognize the guy and turn him in.

"I hope this guy gets caught and I intend to press full charges. From what I understand,  there's been other vandalism in the area . I'm hoping this will put a dent in that vandalism and make it a safer neighborhood," he added.

Police are investigating, but so far they haven't made any arrests.
