KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Kissimmee police are warning apartment communities about recent burglaries involving rent deposit drop box burglaries.
Since early February, six reports regarding burglaries to apartment drop boxes have been investigated. The burglaries were not discovered until the community management began sending out late notices to residents whose rent monies had not been received.
Investigators said that a sticky substance was found in one of the drop boxes indicating that this same substance was utilized to pull the checks and money orders out of the boxes.
Of the money orders that have been cashed, detectives said it is clear that the money orders had been "washed" with a different name appearing in the "Pay to the Order" line.
Kissimmee police have been able to identify two persons of interest in the case, or possible victims of identity theft.
