(TSA photo)A quick-thinking former NYPD detective helped save a woman trapped in a burning car.
It happened in Tampa on Wednesday morning.
Jim Flaherty is now the Assistant Federal Security Director for the TSA at Tampa International Airport.
He was on his way to work when a car sped past him. A few minutes later he saw the car again, but this time it was crashed into the woods and was on fire.
Flaherty and another passerby jumped out of their cars and ran to the burning auto. The driver's door was wedged against a tree and the woman was screaming that her leg was broken.
Flaherty ran to the passenger's side to free the woman's leg and pull her from the car before the car was engulfed in flames.
He left the scene and went directly to work with blood and mud stains still on his clothes.
Flaherty was a 20-year veteran of the NYPD and is also an Army veteran.
