SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Anti-war activists protested a meeting of defense contractors on Thursday outside the Hilton Scottsdale Resort and Villas where the conference was held.

Demonstrators say they don't believe technology and science should be used to create weaponry and they object the use of drones.

They say the government should stop funding wars and instead focus on the needs of people.

"Another argument that they make for spending the money on these military projects is jobs and we believe we could fund a lot more jobs for solar right here in Arizona and that would create jobs here, the money would stay here -- they wouldn't be going overseas," said Virginia Hauflaire of the Progressive Democrats of America.

Thursday's meeting of the Aerospace, Defense and Engineering Industries was hosted by the Arizona Technology Council and the Arizona Commerce Authority.
