Boy confined to wheelchair asks for your help

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -- At first glance, 9-year-old Addison Santana looks like any other boy his age, doing what boys do -- roughhousing and showing off. But Addison's reality is life in a wheelchair.

He has been unable to move his legs since birth, due to a rare neuromuscular skeletal disorder called arthogryposis which occurs in the uterus, limiting mobility.

Right now, the family has a wheelchair lift on the family's truck; but soon, mom won't be able to lift Addison.  Plus, Addison needs his independence, the family says.

This past year has been especially difficult.  The family lives at the grandparents' home now, and dad's got a new job on the road as a trucker.

They don't qualify for Social Security assistance, because dad works.  Addison can't get Medicaid assistance, because the state doesn't recognize arthogryposis as a lifelong disability.

According to statistical data, it's unlikely Addison will ever walk, but a handicap accessible van would help, which is why mom has entered an online contest where a van is the prize.

You can vote for Addison.  The family says a vote for Addison is a vote that will really make a difference.
