Her father, Jonathan Watkins, was also injured in the shooting. He was released from the hospital Thursday and escorted by the family's spokesperson, Pastor Corey Brooks, to the 5th District police station to dispel any rumors that he is not cooperating with investigators.
Watkins was presumably taken into a room to be questioned by detectives to answer investigators questions in the case.
"Things being said are inaccurate and we wanted to make sure there is accuracy," Brooks told the media Thursday night. "We don't want this death to be anything that delays an arrest any longer. So, we wanted to make sure that Jonathan came in tonight. He just got released from the hospital. His wounds have not even healed yet, he is in a lot of pain, so we're going to go in and whatever the police need to know, that he may know, we want to make sure he fully commits himself to letting them know that as he has already done."
"We want to make sure that that is done appropriately," Brooks added. "We want to make sure it is done tonight because we want this resolved so that Jonathan and Judy can start trying to have a life after a loss."
Watkins, a known gang member with a lengthy criminal record, said he was changing the baby's diaper at the time of the shooting. A team of surgeons tried to save baby Jonylah's life, but were unsuccessful.
Jonylah Watkins' funeral has been scheduled for March 19.
An $11,000 reward stands for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the shooter. No arrests have been made as of Thursday night.
