Own A Piece Of Movie History: 'Rocky's' House Is For Sale

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The movie "Rocky" has such special significance in our area. Just hearing that famous theme music gets our blood pumping.

And the movie makes us think about so many things. The statue of Rocky at the base of the steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, for instance

But there's one piece of "Rocky" history you can own for yourself, FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito reported Friday night.

What most people think about when they think of the movies was that iconic run the art museum's steps. But fewer people – only the real "Rocky" fans, and some people in a certain South Philly neighborhood – remember the steps that Rocky jumped off to start that motivating run.

Those steps are for sale and could be yours!

This three-bedroom, 1.5-bath South Philly rowhome showed the world what Philadelphia living looked like in 1979. Rocky bought the home with his winnings.

And everything is the same with one subtraction: The little tree that was outside fell over during Hurricane Sandy.

But it's still in a very solid neighborhood, and it could all be yours!

Lots of the neighbors on Lambert Street remember those three days of filming like it was yesterday, including the listing agent, Joe Bianco, who was 15 at the time.

"They liked the house, they knocked on the door and they chose them. Plus the numbers add up to 9 right? Yeah almost!

In the movie, Rocky says, "The numbers add up to 9. I like that. It's a good omen."

Bianco said of the movie experience, "It was crazy. It was a lot of fun. The whole street was blocked off. Everyone was outside surrounding the shooting. I was actually inside watching them shoot."

They only filmed the outside the home. But the deceased owner's family shared pictures of the cast.

"Pauly was very personable," Bianco said. "He stayed afterwards and drank Sambuca."

The house is listed for $138,000. But you can't put a price on the memories. More than 30 years later 2313 S. Lambert St. is still a tourist attraction.

"There's people who run up on the porch and raise their hands and run down the street. It's a piece of Philadelphia history, in a way."

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
