Amtrak service resumes

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Amtrak resumed service between New York and Boston after rail lines in Connecticut were blocked by a derailed freight train on Sunday morning.

The first northbound departure from New York's Penn Station left about 6 p.m., 80 minutes late, on Sunday. The first southbound departure from Boston's South Station was more than 50 minutes late, leaving at just after 6 p.m.

A freight train derailment east of New Haven, Conn. forced Amtrak to suspend service between New York City and Boston.

New York emergency personnel said there were no injuries and no hazardous materials involved in the derailment.
