MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (KMSP) -

Investigators say they're analyzing an item of interest found Saturday in a Maplewood lake in connection with the disappearance of Kira Trevino, who remains missing but is presumed dead.

Authorities declined to say what the item is or how it's related to the Trevino case, but her family members believe there could be more clues hidden nearby.

None of the family members, who drove from Wisconsin, said they were ready to talk on camera, but investigators say they found the item in the lake after receiving a new tip.

"I called in the top because somebody I knew told me a story about the night it happened. She had saw two guys out on the lake -- looked like they were struggling carrying something and it was just too weird for that time of night around one in the morning," the tipster, who did not want to be identified, told FOX 9 News.

The tipster explained that the witness was too afraid to call and turned to a friend for help.

"It was important because a family is missing a loved one, and it's not fair," the tipster said. "We live close to here. We grew up here, so it's not fair to just let it be looked over."

The object is currently being analyzed by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

On Sunday, family members of 30-year-old Kira Trevino, including her grandfather and second cousin, continued searching and digging near the south side of Keller Regional Park in Maplewood.

"To help find my sister is heartwarming," said Keri Anne Steger, who also participated in the search. "It's comforting to know there are so many people being the good they want to see in the world and my heart goes out to all of them. There are no words to show or extend my gratitude."

One such searcher is John Joswiak. Although he did not know Kira Trevino, he was still willing to wade into the freezing water to look for more clues.

"I think everyone should be doing it. Why not? Most people are sitting home watching TV," Joswiak said. "Why not come out and try to help somebody?"

Family members say they couldn't possibly cover all the ground without the help of everyone who has pitched in to help.

"It's amazing how everyone has come together -- strangers, friends, family, people from out of state where the story has touched their hearts," Steger said.

Volunteers also launched a second search on Saturday in St. Paul, focusing on Fort Snelling State Park. People like Paul Grimes, who also did not know Kira Trevino, came out to lend a hand.

"I would be in a world of hurt if my daughter was killed, and I would want all my friends looking," Grimes said.

Police have already charged Jeffrey Trevino with murdering his wife. A judge refused to lower his $1 million bail on Thursday, saying he's a flight risk.

Kira Trevino was last seen on the night of Feb. 21 as she left work at the Mall of America. Police found so much blood in her car and home, they believe she is dead.

While the item of interest is the strongest lead in finding Kira Trevino so far, the family is still waiting for the clue that will help bring their loved one home.

"The information that you give is imperative to finding my sister, to this case, to bring her peace, to bring her home to our family and friends," Steger said. "We need to find her and we need all of your help."

There is a tip line dedicated to the Trevino case. Anyone with information is urged to call St. Paul police at 651-560-3277.

Family members urge anyone with even a minor tip to call it in, or ask a trusted friend to do so on their behalf.

Jeffery Trevino's next court date is scheduled for March 29. A plea could be entered at that time.
