Take the risk out of Sudden Cardiac Arrest with help from Wayne State medical

It's common knowledge that a heart attack can take a victim's life within seconds, but now doctors are concerned with the seriousness of other heart diseases. Doctors are educating Americans on the seriousness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), which claims one life every 90 seconds. Survival rates for SCA outside of a hospital range from a low of 0.2 percent in Detroit to 16 percent in Seattle. SCA is responsible for breast cancer, lung cancer, AIDS and other diseases.

Doctors encourage everyone to check family history for any heart diseases and see a doctor or for those already diagnosed with a heart problem, consider visiting a heart specialist.
SCA facts: - African Americans are more at risk -SCA claims one life every 90 seconds - When shoveling, pay attention, if you become short of breath and dizzy call 9-1-1 - Minutes matter in an SCA incident. Hands-only CPR provides chest compressions by pushing hard and fast in the middle of the victim's chest with minimal interruptions at approximately 100 beats per minute, or hum the Bee Gee's song 'Staying Alive'.
The no. 1 tip: If you know CPR, do it. The survival rate is doubled for victim's who are given CPR.
