Boy remains critical after accidental shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A 4-year-old boy has been transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital after being shot.  Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting at Los Robles Apartments, located in Orlando's Pine Hills community to determine the circumstances.  A 911 call was received around 9:30 a.m.

Police said the boy, who lives at the apartment, accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun.  The boy remains in critical condition.

"There were two people inside the house with the child," said Deputy Ginette Rodriguez with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.  "It appears self-inflicted, as an accident. The child located a hand gun in the home. We don't know if he was playing with it or what."

Detectives spent much of the afternoon waiting for a search warrant so that they could go inside the apartment and investigate. The boy's mother was at work when the shooting occurred.  The child was at home with his 16-year-old aunt and a family friend when he shot himself inside a bedroom.

Investigators are now trying to determine who owns the gun and how the boy got his hands on the weapon.

Jizelle Sentizo's children play with the little boy.  "I saw them this morning taking out the boy with the ambulance.  I thought oh maybe he's sick or something," she said.  She did not hear the gunshot and tells us she is shocked to hear that deputies believe the little boy accidentally shot himself.  "I don't even know what to think. That's crazy," said Sentizo.

Sentizo and other neighbors said they were hoping and praying that the little boy, who's usually outside playing, will be okay.
