Six people living in a Henry County home are lucky to be alive after a fire swept through the building on Wednesday.
Henry County authorities say the fire sparked at a home on Leigh Drive in Ellenwood at around 10:30 a.m. They say when crews arrived at the scene, heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the home, but three adults and three children had already escaped from the home.
Authorities say the family heard the smoke alarm and ran outside. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
Fire crews say the 7,000 square foot home suffered significant damaged, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
