DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Volusia County deputies said Tenika Smith walked into the Deltona Amscot on Howland Boulevard on Tuesday and tried to cash her tax refund check. Only, the woman who works there knew something was off.
Deputies said there appeared to be white-out on the amount of the check, and it looked like a "3" was made into an "8." Deputies said it was an attempt to get an $8,000 refund instead of a $3,000 refund. Deputies also said Smith used blue ink to make the change on the black ink check.
Smith was arrested and charged with uttering a forged instrument. She was taken to jail and has since bonded out.
