Niki Taylor meets with blood donors in Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

Supermodel Niki Taylor was in Atlanta on Wednesday to meet with some of the Red Cross volunteer blood donors who helped save her life after a life-threatening accident back in 2001.

More than a decade ago, Taylor was critically injured in the early-morning crash on Ponce De Leon in front of City Hall East. The car she was riding in ran off the road and hit a utility pole after the driver apparently looked down to answer his cell phone.

"If I didn't have over the hundred units of blood, there's no way the doctors could have done what they wanted to do...or the hospital, the nurses, everybody that was involved," Taylor said.

Since that time, Taylor has become an ambassador for the Red Cross, traveling the country to advocate donating blood.

"When you give back and you give and you see life again, you see it, I see it so much different than I did in my 20s and that's why I'm here today," Taylor said.

Taylor spend two months recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital. She says she's not only grateful to have walked away with 'her own' life, but to be there to raise her four kids. She says every two seconds someone needs blood and she encourages everyone to roll up their sleeves and give.
