A FOX 10 Exclusive

PHOENIX - A Phoenix woman opened a package delivered to her home and found a brick of marijuana packed inside. It was definitely not what she ordered.

The package was addressed to a home in Jamaica, New York. But the return address was here in Phoenix.

So when postal workers couldn't deliver the package, it was shipped back to the valley. We spoke with the woman who received the package and got quite a surprise.

Jennifer was expecting a teddy bear in the mail that she bought online. When she opened the package Wednesday, she says the smell was overwhelming.

Jennifer is an avid teddy bear collector. She has dozens. When she picked up the package from her mailbox, she was sure it was the teddy bear she recently ordered. The package was large.

"I had to pull it out very carefully to get it out of there so I was really sure it was my teddy bear," says Jennifer.

But what she found inside the box didn't look like any teddies.

"I was so excited I just tore right into it and when I opened it there was another box inside the box."

She thought it was odd that the package was covered in tape.

"Finally I got tired and I took my scissors and I stabbed it and I cut a hole in it and wow. The smell just permeated my house and I was shocked. It was a giant brick of marijuana in mailbox!"

She snapped a few photos of the pot and called police.

"It was yeah at least that big and it was packed really tight."

The package was supposed to be sent to Jamaica, New York but never arrived. Jennifer quickly figured out what happened.

"The post office couldn't deliver it and whoever sent it used my address and a fake name for the return to sender, so the post office returned it here and the name was Diane Burns and I was like, obviously that is a fake name."

An officer came and picked up the marijuana.

"I hope whoever doesn't come looking for it. Cause I am Irish and I am a fighter. They will have a fight on their hands and it is not here, the police have it."

Police tell us what happened to her isn't uncommon. Drug dealers often put bogus addresses on packages. As we saw with this case, sometimes those addresses are legitimate.

Phoenix PD is investigating but they wouldn't tell us more than that.
