Two people were shot and eight others injured after a series of accidents in Midtown Atlanta on Friday. Authorities said that three people were arrested after the wrecks.
According to the initial investigation, police said it appeared that a red Range Rover sped out of the Varsity restaurant's parking lot onto Spring Street and struck a car, pushing it into a white SUV. That white SUV then overturned at Spring Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue. Police said the Range Rover then continued at a high speed on Spring Street, where it struck four other vehicles at the intersection of North Avenue and Spring Street.
Police said at that point, two men and a female got out of the Range Rover and fled on foot. Officers were able to locate them, one of whom had a gunshot wound to the hand.
All three occupants were taken into custody by police.
Another person was found inside the Ranger Rover with a gunshot to the chest. That person was transported to the hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to police.
Authorities said that eight people, including a 3 and 4-year-old were injured in the accidents. Seven of those people were transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition, according to police.
Spring Street was blocked at Ponce de Leon and North Avenue while police investigated. All roads were reopened by 7 p.m.
Police appeared to recover a gun and cash from the Range Rover. They are investigating how and why the incident began.
