Va. teens to face charges after 'gallon smashing' video

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Three northern Virginia teenagers who consider themselves merry pranksters with a popular YouTube channel are facing criminal charges for what they allegedly did in their most viewed video.

Fairfax County police have been working for the past month to bring misdemeanor charges of destruction of property and disorderly conduct.

Investigators say the home videos were shot in at least four different grocery stores in Fairfax County.

The teens called their prank "gallon smashing."

One would grab gallon jugs of milk or juice, pretend to trip and fall, and splash the liquids all over the place and sometimes on other customers. The others were recording the prank on video.

Two of the teens are brothers. The third person is their cousin.

Police say they are students at Marshall High School in Falls Church. Each is being charged as a juvenile.

Police tell us Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter and Whole Foods have each cooperated with investigators.

The video was a big hit on the internet with more than three million views in three days. The teens eventually took the clip offline, but it was too late. Others had posted it elsewhere on the web.

When FOX 5 News first reported this story last month, one of the teens told us he felt bad about what they had done.

Now they are facing criminal charges for the videotaped prank.
