DETROIT (WJBK) -

A popular children's museum has a new name and a new approach to making health and wellness more interactive for kids.

"We want to make this a fun, interactive area," said Julie Johnson with the Michigan Science Center.

She talked about the "Working It Off" exhibit in the Health and Wellness Gallery.

"In this area, we're trying to get them to learn how much energy it really takes to burn off all those calories that they're eating and have fun doing it," Johnson explained.  "So they have a competition with all the numbers and how many reps they can do between each other."

There is a "Nutrimat" where kids pick different foods and then get feedback on whether they made healthy choices, as well as a transparent anatomical mannequin and even an MRI machine.

"Basically what we've done... is put an actual MRI machine on our floor," Johnson said.  "It's to help [the kids] be... assured that nothing's going to happen to them when they go into the machine.  It buzzes, it beeps, but nothing really hurts them."

That is not all you will find at the new Michigan Science Center.  If you really want an eye opening view of how your body works, you can see "The Human Body" at the IMAX theater.

The Michigan Science Center is located in Midtown Detroit at the corner of John R and Warren Avenue.  For more information, visit www.mi-sci.org.
