NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD shot and killed a man in Brooklyn Friday night.

It happened just before 8 p.m. on Court St. in the Red Hook section.

Police respond to a report of a man stabbed.  When they got there they were met by the 53-year-old victim.  The man said he had been stabbed by his roommate.

Police spotted the other man, and say he still had a knife in his hand.

Officers say as they approached him, he lunged at them with the knife.  They ordered him to drop it but he kept coming at them.

Police shot him in the torso.  He was taken to Lutheran Hospital but it was too late to save him.

The stabbing victim was also taken to Lutheran Hospital with a wound to his shoulder.  He is expected to survive.
