Eatonville Police have a murder mystery on their handsafter a man's body was found in an empty lot right behind the MacedonianBaptist Church in downtown Eatonville. Mayor Bruce Mount showed up to try andcalm worried residents.
"That is a bad situation, and for it to happen in mytown, it's really sad," he said.
Residents may have reason to be concerned. Police ChiefGene Bernal admitted, they do not have anyone in custody, and are not expectedto make an immediate arrest.
"Yes we have a killer on the loose. We at this time donot know, and what we are asking the public to do is if you have information onthis share it with us," the chief of police said.
Chief Bernal told us little about the case as crime sceneinvestigators scoured the scene for clues.
"Well at this point we have identified this as a homicideand we will be treating it as such."
Residents told police they heard gunshots in the earlymorning hours, and Chief Bernal says they will be following up on those leads.
"Certainly we think that's related, but we don't know thatyet," he said.
All they would release about the victim is that he is ablack male between the ages of 20 and 40. The victim could be clearly seen byresidents, many of them children, lying face down in the empty lot covered by a police tarp.
