More than 100 get shaved heads for cancer research

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - More than 100 people, including more than 20 women, are sporting the shaved head look in Savannah.

They got their heads shaved Saturday during the 10th annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser. The event's organizer, Dr. Yael Elfassy, estimated it raised $50,000 for childhood cancer research. She participates each year. She said the short hair saves her about 20 minutes each morning when getting ready, but it means more than that to show support for children with cancer.

Among those getting shaved heads was 11-year-old Christian Chance. His mother, Tina Chance, told the Savannah Morning News that he has done it for three years to show support for his sister, Cathleen, who is a 2-time cancer survivor.
