Employees injured in Lincoln Square store robberies

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A suspect attacked store employees last week while robbing two stores in the North Side Lincoln Square neighborhood.

During the first robbery, at about 4:16 p.m. on March 21 in the 2300 block of West Leland Avenue, the suspect asked the salesperson for assistance with an item, according to an alert from Area North detectives.

He then approached the counter and announced a robbery, the alert said. The suspect took money from the register, and punched and kicked the employee before running away.

On Sunday at 2:45 p.m., the suspect entered a store in the 1900 block of West Montrose Avenue and asked for help with a purchase, the alert said.

He then grabbed the employee and announced a robbery, the alert said. The employee gave the suspect money and attempted to leave the store, but the suspect punched the employee in the face before fleeing.

In each robbery, only one employee was inside the store at the time, the alert said.

The suspect is described as a 35-to-45-year-old black man with a medium complexion, 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-2 and 240-250 pounds, the alert said.

He was wearing a beige, puffy jacket; dark jogging pants and dark gym shoes, the alert said.
