Two more victims accuse Woodstock man in Craigslist rapes

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A northwest suburban man already charged with sex-related crimes against several women he met on Craigslist was charged Monday with attacking two more victims.

Charles R. Oliver, 45, of the 400 block of West Greenwood Avenue in Woodstock, faces two new counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and two new counts of criminal sexual assault, according to Woodstock police.

As of Feb. 10, Oliver was being held in the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility on a $3.5 million bond on numerous sex-related charges, police said. For the most recent charges, bond was set at an additional $500,000.

Oliver was initially arrested Jan. 28, 2013, and as of August 2013 had been charged with attacking six women. In addition to the new charges, he already faced two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, three counts of criminal sexual assault, three counts of unlawful restraint and one count of harassment of a witness.

During the continuing investigation, two more victims came forward, police said.

Prosecutors claim Oliver met each on Craigslist, and allegedly assaulted them after they met at pre-arranged locations, police said.

The alleged assaults occurred between November 2011 and last January — including at least two that happened after police first began investigating Oliver last fall.

Prosecutors contended Oliver found the women mostly by answering Internet ads offering paid sexual encounters, though he frequently used a fake name to arrange the meetings.

After Oliver met the women, he brought them to his home in the far northwest suburb — where some of the encounters quickly turned violent.

Oliver allegedly took the women to his basement, where he threw them to the ground, choked them or tied them to a chair, Eisenstein said.

He later brought the women to a different part of his home and forced them to have sex — frequently photographing or videotaping the alleged assaults, Eisenstein said.

When they searched his house, police discovered "thousands" of images of Oliver engaged in sex acts with different women, including some that appeared forced, Eisenstein said.

And Oliver allegedly kept a photographic record of many of the women he had brought to his house.

"Now you get to have your picture taken and be in my collection," Oliver allegedly told one of the women, Eisenstein said.

He allegedly threatened to kill several of the women if they went to police and showed several a handgun before releasing them.

Defense attorney Mark Facchini contended the allegations made by some of the women weren't consistent with videos found in Oliver's home by police.

And Woodstock police believe there may be other victims. Anyone with information should call police at (815) 338-2131.
