MONROE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Steve Theisen broke down when he found out the truck he loaned an 18-year-old friend Tuesday morning was involved in a police chase that ended in a crash that killed 59-year-old Diana Cupp.

"I don't even care about a truck," he said.  "I can replace a truck.  You can't replace a life at all.  That's all that's going through my head right now is a life was lost."

It all started around noon.  A Monroe police officer in a marked car spotted the gray Sierra pickup heading east on West Front Street near Toledo speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.  Police say they started pursuing the truck.  The driver refused to stop and was driving at speeds up to 70 miles per hour down city streets.

"I hear police sirens, and before I know it, I look up look through the window to see where the sirens are coming from and I hear a boom.  It was like a bomb," said Matt Kaczynski.

He happened to be working the drive-thru window at the McDonald's on Monroe Street at the time.  Surveillance video captured his dramatic reaction as he watched the truck blow through the light and slam into a Ford Edge SUV as it pulled out of the Kroger parking lot.

"The whole driver's side was smashed in, and I saw that truck skidding to a stop," Kaczynski explained.  "I just froze with shock."

We've learned right before the accident, the victim was shopping with her sister at Kroger.  They drove separately, so when she pulled out and was struck, her sister witnessed that horrific accident.

"I saw them praying and screaming, the family," Kaczysnki said.

Other family members, who rushed to the scene, are still reeling from what happened.  An innocent grandmother was struck by an 18-year-old, who was allegedly driving with a suspended license.

"He told me he had a license, and come to find out he didn't have one.  I'm shocked.  If I would've known he had a suspended license, I would never have let him get in my vehicle," Theisen said.

Both the 18-year-old driver and his female passenger were injured in the crash and taken into custody.  Charges are expected on Wednesday.
