ATLANTA -

Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane was denied bond by a judge on Wednesday following his arrest for aggravated assault. He is accused of hitting a man with a champagne bottle inside a downtown nightclub earlier this month.

According to FOX 5's Darryl Carver, the judge cited Mane's prior record and previous encounters with the law as the reason he was denied bond. Mane turned himself into authorities on Tuesday night.

Mane's attorneys say no witnesses saw Mane strike the alleged victim.

Investigators say the alleged assault happened at the Harlem Nights nightclub on March 16. They say Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, struck another club patron over the head with a bottle.

"He was arrested because he had the aggravated assault warrant. This stems from an incident that happened at the Harlem Nights club where our victim, who just got home from military duty, asked Gucci Mane's security if he could have a picture with him for his Facebook page. During that exchange, our victim reported that Gucci then took a champagne bottle and hit him in the head," said Lt. Jeff Cantin of the Atlanta Police Department.

Some photos show a gash in the man's scalp, others show his shirt bloodied after the altercation.

Davis' attorney, Drew Findling, says authorities only have the word of his accuser to back up their claims.

"We have now talked to a half a dozen witnesses who all say, from their perspective, there was a melee that broke out, but nowhere in that melee did they see Radric Davis hit anybody with a bottle," said Findling.

Mane is being held in the Fulton County Jail. His next hearing is set for April 10.
