APD prepares for Final Four events

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The Atlanta Police Department is expecting crowds in excess of 100,000 for the NCAA Final Four and related events, and they urge people to seek alternate means of transportation if they plan on attending.

Police say the events will be held at Philips Arena, the Georgia Dome, the Georgia World Congress Center, and Centennial Olympic Park.

They strongly urge people to take MARTA or hotel shuttles operating during the events.

According to police, there will be a strong police presence, and officers will be working 12 hour shifts to provide a safe experience for everyone.

However, if you must drive into the city, police suggest the following:

  • Coming from the north to exit I-75 at Northside Drive and follow it south to the Dome.
  • Other exits from I-75/85 southbound include Williams Street or M.L. King Jr. Drive, but both of these are expected to back up early.
  • From the south, drivers on I-75/85 should take the International Blvd., Fulton St or Central Avenue exits.
  • Fans coming in on I-20 east should use the Windsor/Spring Street exit. The best exits on I-20 west are Capitol Avenue or Windsor Street.

They remind visitors to be mindful of their surroundings, and to call 911 if any suspicious activity is seen.
