PHILADELPHIA -

Video released Wednesday shows the moment investigators say a car slammed into an off-duty Philadelphia police officer in the city's Kensington neighborhood.

Police say the car hit the officer and then sped away.

In an afternoon news conference, police identified the off-duty officer as Mike Brady, a five-year veteran of the department.

Police say he was walking home from a local establishment at 3:30 a.m. when he was run down by a dark colored sedan. Police say they are looking for a dark colored Lincoln MKS with damage to its hood and windshield.

Police are still trying to figure out what caused the accident.

Surveillance video shows the car stop and a passenger who appears to be a woman get out to assess the damage before the car drives off.

Police say they are confident the people inside of the car knew they had hit something.

Brady is being treated at Hahnemann University Hospital. Police expect him to be released from the hospital later Wednesday evening.
