Deputy's son, 7, killed in driveway

PORT CHARLOTTE (AP) -

The 7-year-old son of a Charlotte County deputy was killed after he was run over by a van backing down the driveway of a Port Charlotte home.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Ethan V. Estrada was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital following the Tuesday accident.

The boy was in the driveway when a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, driven by 62-year-old Terrence Hunter, of Ontario, Canada, began slowly backing out of a garage.

The FHP says as Hunter backed the van down the curving driveway, the left-front tire hit and rolled over the boy.

Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell issued a statement Wednesday, extending his condolences to Deputy Kevin Estrada and his wife.
