Family Christian Center puts on `Passion Play` in Munster
MUNSTER, Ind. (FOX 32 News) -
One of the largest churches in the nation is in Munster, Indiana. "Jesus of Nazareth: The Passion Play" is an annual tradition. Family Christian Center wants to impress an important message leading up to Easter.
Pastor Steve Munsey wrote the play when he was just 19 years old, and the faithful can come and see it on Holy Thursday, as the Lenten season comes to a close.
The two and a half hour production features around 1,000 actors and actresses – behind the scenes and on stage – on a set spanning 200 feet.
Millions of people have seen the show over the last 30 years. The play outlines Jesus' time before the crucifixion, his death, burial and resurrection. Central characters include Mary Magdalene, Barrabas, Judas, high priests and of course, Christ himself.
Munsey is also directing the show, and he wanted audiences to "appreciate what Jesus Christ did," and know that "there is hope, through him, beyond this life."
The church is located at 340 45th Ave. in Munster. Tickets are still available here.
