Corporate 5K: Track Shack offers tips for participants
The 19th annual Corporate 5K in downtown Orlando is just three weeks away, and Track Shack owner Betsy Hughes stopped by Good Day Orlando to offer tips for the 15,000 expected for the event.
"Get outside at least three days a week," Hughes says. "You don't have to overwhelm yourself and think you have to be out there every single day. Give yourself a goal of three to four days a week to either go outside or get on a treadmill.
"Pound the pavement for about 30 minutes," Hughes says.
She also encourages planning proper nutrition for the race, which for many is a participant's first 5K walk or run.
"You don't to eat lunch too late. Have a light snack around 5 in the afternoon, but nothing big. And wait to party a little bit till after the 5K," Hughes said.
Of course, Hughes "encourages all our runners and walkers to outfit themselves with the proper footwear.
"If nothing else, you need to be comfortable in the shoe you're going to wear three weeks from now. So get it now, get used to walking outside in the concrete, walking at night," Hughes said.
