WILMINGTON, Del. -

Police in Wilmington say they stopped chasing a car after it reached high speeds, but the car apparently kept going and ended up striking a pole, causing it to split in half.

According to police, two officers attempted to pull over an Acura that was allegedly driving recklessly Thursday in the city's west side.

When police say they attempted to stop the car, it sped off. Police chased the Acura, but stopped the pursuit when it reached high speeds.

According to police, the Acura continued to drive recklessly and eventually hit a pickup truck at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Greenhill avenues.

Police say the pickup truck hit the Acura in the right passenger side, causing it to strike a traffic signal pole in the intersection.

The Acura split in two, causing a passenger to be ejected. Police say the passenger was rushed to Christiana Hospital, where they are in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Christiana Hospital.

Police say the driver of the Acura, Leon Wilson, got out of the car and allegedly ran away but was taken into custody shortly after. According to police, Wilson had an active warrant out for his arrest for violation of probation.
