GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two employees were injured when machinery exploded at a west suburban factory Monday morning.

Emergency officials responded to a report of an explosion about noon at Northstar Metal Products Inc. at 591 Mitchell Dr. in Glendale Heights and found smoke emanating from the building, according to Glendale Heights police.

It is believed a piece of machinery exploded and caught fire inside the building, a release from police said.

An employee was treated at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights and another was treated at the scene, police said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined but appears to be mechanical, police said. There were no signs of foul play and no estimate of property damage was immediately available.

All trains on the adjacent Canadien National railroad track have been stopped and traffic is closed on Glen Ellyn Road between Gregory Avenue and Windy Point Drive, police said.

Firefighters from the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District and surrounding areas remain on the scene as of Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the explosion should call Glendale Heights police at (630) 260-6070.
