ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -

Local basketball star Kevin Ware is the talk of social media after a graphic injury during Sunday's NCAA tournament game.  Ware, who now plays for Louisville after attending Rockdale County High School, suffered a broken leg in two places in the game against Duke.

Some called the injury one of the most horrific and gruesome they'd ever seen.

"I mean I was almost in tears, couldn't believe that happened to him," said Darlene Mitchell, Ware's friend.

Those rooting Ware on in Conyers were sick about it.

"Everybody I was with, everyone that I had texted right around the time when it happened -- we all had the same feeling. It was just -- your stomach kind of sinks and then when they showed replay we saw it, your heart went out to him," said Jerrid Harris, Rockdale County High's athletic director.

C.J. Wilson, a friend and former teammate at  Rockdale County High School, said Ware is doing OK.

"Kevin's in good spirits, just ready. He still wants to play so bad. Knowing Kevin, that's him," said Wilson.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino says it was Kevin's attitude that kept the team going, leading to their win and a trip to the Final Four in Atlanta.

"I don't think any of us, with what we had to witness, could have overcome it if it wasn't for Kevin Ware, 12 times saying to the guys, 'I'll be fine. Win the game,'" Pitino said.

Kids at the Boys and Girls Club in Conyers said they were proud of Ware and how he rallied the team.
