SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

A woman inside a popular, new club in Southfield was fatally shot when gunfire erupted outside.  I spoke to the victim's husband about the unsolved murder.

"Some guys got into an altercation inside the club.  The bouncers put them out, and those guys came back to the club and began shooting, and the bullet hit her in the back of her head.  She never saw it coming.  From my understanding, she died instantly," said Leon Riggs about the death of his wife, Nicole.

The 33-year-old mother was gunned down at a birthday party.

"Walks in a room and lights up a room.  There's nobody who can tell you a bad thing about her," Riggs said.  "She went out with her cousin for a birthday party.  Really didn't want to go that night, but she went just because it was her family, got there, had a good time."

Myst Ultra Lounge on Franklin Road, once considered a safe party place for mature adults, is now riddled with bullets after a fight inside the club led to shots fired from the parking lot toward the building.

Riggs broke the news to his wife's friends and family on Facebook.

"It's something hard for me to explain to my 13-year-old to tell him his mom is never coming home, but with the grace of God, we're going to get through it," he said.

Riggs and his wife were deeply in love, together for twelve years and married for the last ten.  He asked her to marry him all over again on their anniversary in October, and she said yes.

"We were sitting down getting ready to plan our renewal ceremony.  Now I'm planning a different ceremony," he said.  "I'm a man of faith.  I have to believe God has a plan.  I don't understand it right now, and it's hard for me to explain it to my 13-year-old, but I definitely believe he has a plan."

Riggs said he is not angry, but he does want justice for his wife.  He is asking anyone with any information to step forward and contact Southfield Police.

Nicole Riggs did not have any life insurance, so her family will be setting up a fund in her name at Flagstar Bank.
