Bulger's lawyer wants informant's name

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) – James "Whitey" Bulger's lawyer says it's time for an unidentified informant to come forward.

Bulger's defense claims the informant has information that could be vital in Bulger receiving a fair trial.

The motion centers around testimony given by Bulger's former associate Kevin Weeks. In 1991, Weeks, Bulger and two other men cashed in on a $14 million lottery ticket. According to court documents, the informant exposed the winnings as an attempt to launder money.

Prosecutors argue unsealing the record would put the man and his family in danger.

Defense attorneys also asked the judge to allow them to present an immunity defense, which is something the previous judge already ruled against.

Bulger's trial is expected to start in June.
