A flatbed semi-truck crashed and jumped over the guardrail on the Selmon Crosstown Expressway's elevated lanes, causing delays for thousands of drivers heading into Tampa.
Troopers say the truck's driver lost control and hit a guardrail at the downtown exit. The truck actually jumped the rail traveled 600 feet along the top of the concrete barrier wall before coming to rest, knocking over three light poles in the process.
The view from SkyFOX showed the truck's cab sitting on the edge of the barrier, its passenger-side wheels actually hanging over the edge of the elevated lanes near the Hillsborough Water Department building downtown.
During the crash, some of the truck's ready-mix concrete bags spilled into the roadway, making an even bigger mess of things.
The Crosstown's westbound lanes at Kennedy Boulevard were shut down for a few hours. Both lanes were not open again until after 5 p.m.
The truck's driver, identified by FHP as Mark Owen Pickard, 45, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. He'll be charged with careless driving, troopers say.
