BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A cantilevered concrete balcony fell off of a third floor condominium unit at a complex in Cocoa Beach on Monday.   Investigators are still trying to figure out how and why it happened.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Brevard County Fire Rescue responded to the reported collapse of a balcony at the Villa Verde Condominium, 3500 S. Atlantic Ave.

The condominium association secured the services of a structural engineer to assess the extent of the damage and Brevard County Building Inspections also responded. The damage appeared to be limited to the collapsed third floor balcony and the second floor balcony below. The balcony was left hanging by structural steel rebar and was safely removed Tuesday morning.

Shoring will be placed to support the remaining balconies as ongoing forensic investigation continues to determine the cause and possible remedies.

No injuries were reported.
