Red Flag Warning Issued For Dangerous Fire Weather Conditions

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The National Weather Service has posted a Red Flag Warning for the entire region today.

The warning, which will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., is for eastern Pennsylvania, all of New Jersey and northern Delaware.

CHECK: NWS Weather Warnings, Watches, Advisories

We don't get these too often in our area, FOX 29 Meteorologist Caitlin Roth explained. They basically mean it is very dry out there, there's low relative humidity and that, combined with the gusty winds, means wildfires can easily start and spread.

Winds out of the west-northwest will be at 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. And the relative humidity will be as low as 20 to 25 percent, the National Weather Service says.

Temperatures will mainly range from the mid-40s to 50 degrees.

"There is a great potential for rapid wildfire spread today due to the gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fine fuels. Outdoor burning is not recommended," the warning states. "… Any fires that develop may quickly get out of control and become difficult to contain."

For more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state forestry or environmental protection website.
