Child found wandering at Orlando apartment complex
A toddler, found wandering around an Orlando area apartment complex Wednesday morning, has been reunited with her family.
Police responded to Nassau Bay Apartments, 5200 N. Orange Blossom Trail, at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday after it was reported that there was a little girl walking through the complex without adult supervision. Police said she could only "yes" or "no" to questions, but could not relay her name or any other information.
"It appears that she lives with an adult sister and is just under 2 years old," said Department of Children and Families spokesperson Carrie Hoeppner. "Her adult sister, who was unable to afford child care and had to go to work, left the toddler with a friend"
Hoeppner said the friend had worked an overnight shift and fell asleep. Upon waking up, the babysitter saw the flyers and got in touch with the apartment managers."
The adult sister, who arrived home from work early Wednesday evening, was described as "quite distraught."
Hoeppner says there is no prior history of neglect regarding the child. DCF investigators are working with the family on acquiring additional locks for the apartment and will help them obtain affordable child care.
