Chippers Jones responds to Rutgers' coach firing: 'Toughen up'

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Former Atlanta Braves great Chipper Jones took to Twitter on Wednesday to defend fired Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice.

Rice was fired after cell phone video showed him shouting gay slurs and throwing basketballs at players' heads. He had initially been fine and suspended, but lost his job after the video went viral.

Jones wrote on Twitter, "I got cursed at and called names by a ton of people growing up. Were they fired? Nope! Do I care? Nope! What's the big deal? Toughen up!"

In another post, Jones said, "Yeah, been hit w/ bball equipment on purpose, been dragged around a football field by my facemask and ran suicides til I puked! I ain't mad."
