Phoenix teen stabs father during domestic violence situation

Posted: Updated:

Police say a 15-year-old boy stabbed his father to death after the man physically fought with both him and his mother on Friday night.

A cross hangs near the front door of a home on the 300 block of East Whitton Avenue.

It was at this home that police say a teenage boy stabbed and killed his father around 10 p.m. Friday night.

Neighbor Jim Reynolds was watching TV at the time.

"Then I heard somebody scream across the street, 'Call 911, call 911'," said Reynolds. "Next thing I know, there's a helicopter flying down, putting his lights down on the house and down the street, and I don't know how many cop cars came flying here."

Police say 36-year-old Antonio Raizola, who they say may have been impaired, started physically fighting with his wife and 15-year old son at the home.

Investigators say, at some point, the father got a knife and held it in a threatening manner towards them.

Police say the 15-year-old got the knife away from his father and then stabbed him.

He later died at the hospital.

"The young man across the street, he came out and put his hands behind his back. They put the handcuffs on him and put him in the police car," said Reynolds.

Police believe the teenager was acting in self defense. He was questioned and released.

Neighbors say the family had been renting the house for just a couple months, but they've seen the teenage son outside often.

"He's out here playing basketball almost every evening," said Reynolds.

There was a younger son at home at the time as well.

No one else was injured.

Police say once the investigation is finished, it will be handed over to the Maricopa County Attorney who will decided if or what charges may be filed.
