Three motorcyclists die in three separate crashes Monday
Three motorcyclists died Monday in three separate crashes around Central Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Just before 5 p.m., William Mahlmeister, 36 of Palm Bay died after a 1990 Ford Probe driven by Kelly Painter, 51 of West Melbourne traveled into his path at U.S. 192 and Nina Jean Drive in Melbourne, troopers said. Mahlmeister, who was not wearing a helmet, died at a hospital, they said. Charges are pending in the crash.
In New Smyrna Beach, the 25-year-old driver of a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle was killed in a collision with a 2004 Hyundai driven by Darla Joyce, 73 of Edgewater at the corner of Old Mission Road and Mission Drive, the FHP said. The New Smyrna Beach motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, has not been identified pending next-of-kin notification. The 7:50 p.m. crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending, it said.
At about 10:50 p.m., a 57-year-old motorcyclist from St. Cloud was killed while driving the wrong way on U.S. 192, troopers said. According to a preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on U.S. 192 in the eastbound lanes when he collided head-on with a 2012 Chevy driven by Toni Jernigan, 44 of Boynton Beach. The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, has not been identified. Jernigan and two children riding in the Chevy were treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
