Seeing pain on brain scans

Posted: Updated:

(BOULDER, CO) - Is it possible to see pain on your brain? According to a team of scientists, it is.

Tor Wager is a neuroscientist at the Universtiy of Colorado, Boulder, and he was the lead researcher on this study. Wager and his team found that they were able to "see" pain on brain scans, and for the first time, measure its intensity and tell whether a drug was relieving it.

More studies still need to be conducted, but this could lead to new, less addictive pain medications. The technology could even help verify claims for disability.
