A federal prison guard in Philadelphia faces several charges after being accused of sexual abuse and allegedly assisting an inmate with an attempted escape, U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger announced Thursday.
According to the U.S. Attorney, 47-year-old Lamont Lucas of Philadelphia was arrested Thursday morning. He was charged with sexual abuse of a ward, providing contraband in prison and investigating or assisting an attempted escape, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
According to an indictment that was unsealed Thursday, Lucas allegedly engaged in sexual acts with an inmate between February and May of last year. Lucas was a guard at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia at the time.
The indictment accuses him of allegedly giving the inmate sterling silver earrings and assisting in an attempted escape by the inmate.
Lucas could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted.
