ATLANTA (AP) - Republican State Rep. Ed Lindsey of Atlanta says he's running for Congress in the 11th District.
Lindsey, who is part of the leadership team in the Georgia House of Representatives, announced his bid Thursday. In the race, he joins former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr who earlier said he's running for the 11th district, which includes Marietta, Canton and Cartersville.
U.S. Rep. Rep. Phil Gingrey, who currently represents the 11th district, has announced he'll be leaving to run for U.S. Senate. The upcoming retirement of Sen. Saxby Chambliss, a Republican from Moultrie, has already created two openings in Georgia's congressional delegation as officials consider running for the seat.
Lindsey, who serves as House majority whip, said his campaign will focus on bringing "real conservative reform to Washington."
