Authorities in Decatur are investigating thefts involving cell phones. Since February, police had seven incidents where phones were sought by thieves.
In one case, a passer-by snatched a phone from a table at the Brick Store Pub.
"Basically there were some folks outside and a cell phone was on the table. Someone came running by and snatched a cell phone and a guest from a table next to them chased down this person and got them," said Todd DiMatteo of the restaurant.
Police have made arrests in that case.
Authorities are still investigating a robbery across town at the Wahoo Restaurant a week earlier. Employees there were held up at gunpoint by thieves demanding cash and cell phones.
While business owners and police say the incidents are isolated and not related, authorities are suggesting that people take precautions, including keeping phones close.
Customers FOX 5 talked to said they've done that because they know how much data in phone thieves want to get their hands on.
"You've got credit card numbers in there, you've got apps that actually keep sensitive data in your cell phone so once they get ahold of that they can go on line and check your accounts, find your credit card. There's a plethora of things they can do to take advantage of your personal privacy," said Brian Daily.
