Atlanta police focus on security at large events

ATLANTA -

Metro Atlanta police say they are sharpening their focus on handling large crowds after Monday's explosions at the Boston Marathon.

Fulton County Police Assistant Chief Jerry Stiles said that people can expect security to be increased at large events such as Braves and Hawks games.

"I would expect most definitely there to be heightened security on individuals and vehicles around the site of venues like Turner Field and Phillips Arena. There may be a tightening of things that they are allowed to take in," Stiles said.

Stiles said he got a briefing from his officer on Monday -- that officer is a part of the full-time terrorism task force, located on the Atlanta FBI office.

"We can go long periods with nothing happening, that doesn't mean we have not been vigilant, perhaps we have been so vigilant that we prevented something we didn't know about," Stiles said.

Security was also beefed up at MARTA as a precaution.
