Family members tell FOX 29 an 82-year-old great grandmother is in stable condition after undergoing surgery for a gunshot to the neck.

"I'm hurting," Barbara McDaniel  said with her hand to her mouth shaking.

McDaniel's nerves were rattled after a stray bullet ripped through the living room window of  the Chester, Pa. home she shares with her aunt, Edith Hardy.

Hardy was  shot in the neck Wednesday afternoon by a stray bullet.

"I could have been here. It could have been, it could have been me," said McDaniel.

McDaniel wasn't home, but the bullet critically wounded Hardy, who was sitting on the couch
watching television.

Her family says normally the mother of six would be at afternoon prayer.

"She  didn't feel well," said her friend Pearl Moses. "So she stayed home and was laying down."

Detectives canvassed the neighborhood near 22nd and Crozer, going  door-to-door questioning residents about the gunfight.

Residents report at least six shots fired.

Police say one of the bullets also wounded a young man. We're told he was likely the intended target.

"We need to pull together as a society and get together in Chester and get a hold of our young children," said Moses.

Friends and family members tell us Hardy is an active 82-year-old woman who is the usher president for her church. They say she's also a great grandmother who fostered at least 75 kids in the Chester community.

Police haven't released any information about arrests or suspects in the case.
